Hello, do you love books? Want to read about your favorites?

It's Only Ink! Children's Book Review Newsletter is for children's book reviews. My name is Jennifer LB Leese. I am an author of children's picture books, young adult gothic, fantasy novels, and paranormal romance novels. I am also a children's book reviewer, copyeditor, freelance writer, and feature article writer and managing editor for the local Picket News. As a book reviewer, I have many authors, publishers, and publicists sending me tons of books for review. Because of this, I tend to get overloaded and have no where to send the reviews. So, I decided to put together this newsletter through AuthorsDen to get some of the waiting reviews out there and in the public.

Feel free to pass this invitation on to others. Thanks, and enjoy.

ALIEN INVADERS by Lynn Huggins-Cooper
Published by Raven Tree Press, raventreepress.com
Release June 2005
ISBN: 097247390
Price: $16.95
Reviewed by Jennifer LB Leese, geocities.com/ladyjiraff

What do aliens look like? Are they tall and green with big black eyes? Are they friendly or are they nasty? Lynn Huggins-Cooper thinks they fit the description close enough, except they come in all different colors, sizes, and they each have different ways of getting around. Some fly. Some crawl. Some slither. Cooper thinks aliens are bugs!

“Alien Invaders”, written in English and Spanish, is captivating, creative, and just plan fun. Children's imaginations will soar reading this wonderful book.

Raven Tree's books stand out from the rest with the books they choose to publish, the illustrators they work with, and the way they prepare their books. They use full text translation in English and Spanish, and readers can look up words in the language they choose in the back of the book.

The beautiful illustrations, by Bonnie Leick, add charm and realism to bug expert, Lynn Huggins-Cooper's bouncy, easy-to-read text. This reviewer and her children highly recommend Cooper's book.

BALLET STORIES by Jane Yolen and Heidi E. Y. Stemple

For centuries, ballet has been an elegant form of storytelling, combing music with dance. Dating as far back as 1581, ballet has grown to become a favorite around the world.
In “Ballet Stories”, readers will enjoy the stories of “Swan Lake”, “The Nutcracker”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, and much more.
Love, laughter, betrayal, adventure, dreams, drama, and tragedy are beautifully woven together in this book to treasure.
Artist Rebecca Guay vividly brings the drama of each story to life. Her Victorian-style illustrations enhance each and every page with beauty and awe.
This lovely volume features a brief history (timeline) of classical ballet, as well as historical details, dance composition, and choreography.
This reviewer highly recommends this mesmerizing and luxuriously informative look at classical ballet and the tales behind them.

FAERIES, ELVES, AND SPRITES by Tanya Robyn Batt

It is well know around the world that faeries have been a source of imagination. Magical faerie realms have been the inspiration of writers, artists and musicians such as Shakespeare, William Blake, and Arthur Rackham for centuries. Within the enchanting full-color pages, readers will find delightful elfins, faeries, and sprites. Their legends and folk tales stretch back through the years. “A Child’s Book of Faeries” was influenced on the whole by the works of writers and artists of the Victorian era, a period in which faerie lore was celebrated widely.”
Tanya Batt has put together a collection of bewitching stories with the “hopes of opening the minds of modern readers” and to remind us of the “ever-present magic of possibility”.
Flip through the pages and read the tales of mischievous magical beings, and curious creatures who enjoy charming, befuddling and confusing every human they come across.

EMILY GOES WILD by Betty Lou Phillips

Emily likes to dress-up, play with make-up, paint pictures, climbing curtains, and playing the piano. What’s wrong with this child, you ask? Well, Emily isn’t a child at all. Emily is a monkey. And monkey’s like to play.
Emily and Madame DuBois love to go to the French Quarter for doughnuts and tea and spending hours together. But Emily doesn’t seem to be herself lately. She’s been acting wild!
Worrying, Madame DuBois calls Emily’s vet and finds that she is left with making a very difficult decision.
“Emily Goes Wild” is a heart-warming tale of doing the right thing.
The action-packed, vibrant drawings by Sharon Watts bring Emily and her human friend to life. Children are sure to enjoy the pull-out pages, detailed images, and page/word layout.
This reviewer enjoyed reading this whimsy and fanciful tale to her children.

Ramona Moreno Winner certainly put a lot of research into her new book FREAKY FOODS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. As a true-to-life story based on experiences of the author, Winner writes an interesting and creative book for children.

Winner states that the "greatest hurdle [with traveling around the world] came when we we sat down to eat a meal." I can only imagine--especially as a child.

Winner wrote this book for "children who do not get an opportunity to trave."

FREAKY FOODS FROM AROUND THE WORLD is about a little boy named Lucas who invites his friends to lunch at his grandma's house. Grandma, as a world traveler, likes to prepare odd and peculiar recipes like spider salads and barbecued raccoon.

Written in both English and Spanish, this book has playful illustrations in full-color. Luis Borsan's drawings bring the text to life.

In the back of the book, the author has included "Freaky Facts and Recipes." This section tells natural history facts on animals used for food.
