Hello, do you love books? Want to read about your favorites?

It's Only Ink! Children's Book Review Newsletter is for children's book reviews. My name is Jennifer LB Leese. I am an author of children's picture books, young adult gothic, fantasy novels, and paranormal romance novels. I am also a children's book reviewer, copyeditor, freelance writer, and feature article writer and managing editor for the local Picket News. As a book reviewer, I have many authors, publishers, and publicists sending me tons of books for review. Because of this, I tend to get overloaded and have no where to send the reviews. So, I decided to put together this newsletter through AuthorsDen to get some of the waiting reviews out there and in the public.

Feel free to pass this invitation on to others. Thanks, and enjoy.

As an unconventional family adoption story, "While You Were Sleeping," by Stephanie Burks, lovingly tells of the day when the sun only shone for a few hours and when two women learn that their soon-to-be adopted son was born. The beautiful text goes on to describe the two women's excitement and joy as they hold him, kiss him, and tell him they love him for the first time.

The colorful illustrations drawn by Kelli Bienvenu, enhance the charming storyline. The text is easy-to-read and is great for beginning readers.

The actual text does NOT pin-point the sexuality of the parents. Those that understand and share the true love parents have for their children, no matter what their personal preferences may be, will cherish this remarkable non-traditional adoption story from the heart.

"While You Were Sleeping" is well-written and tugs at the heart with its honorable message of love and the differences that each and every one of us share.

This book is different. It stands out from all the others. It is a book that comes highly recommended by this reviewer.

The O'Malleys are going on vacation. They have a long, hot, boring drive ahead of them. Just when the fighting between siblings Eric, Bridget, and Nell begins, Mom comes up with a way to keep their minds busy—a tally game. They each choose a color and start counting cars, next they count t-shirt, and lastly, they count train cars. Who wins? Find out by getting your hands on TALLY O'MALLEY by STUART J. MURPHY.

Written for children ages 6 and up, this book would work well in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classrooms as a story before a tallying project. Children, at home or in school, can have fun learning how to keep track of objects they are counting by using tally marks. Tally marks also reinforce children's ability to count by fives.

The colorful illustrations enhance the playful, easy-to-read text. This mom and reviewer highly recommends Murphy's fantastic children's book.

Whether you home-school or not, Johnnie W. Lewis's book THE FIVE FINGER PARAGRAPH and THE FIVE FINGER ESSAY make a wonderful teaching tool from home. Lewis has editions for teachers, students, and classroom sets that include 1 teacher's edition, 20 student books, 21 bookmarks, 21 quick guide cards, 5 transparencies, and 5 wall charts. All editions are available from K-12 grade.

This informational book helps children learn how to write paragraphs and essays the easy way. Parent and teacher versions come with formats, forms, checklists, and examples. Lewis, a former certified elementary teacher, designed THE FIVE FINGER PARAGRAPH and THE FIVE FINGER ESSAY with the hopes of inspiring students to do their best in school. This reviewer highly recommends Lewis's book.
GIANTS, GHOSTS AND GOBLINS: Tradition Tales from Around the World

Author John Matthews and illustrator Giovanni Manna team up again for another exciting tale of medieval times and legends.
“Giants, Ghosts and Goblins” is a fast-moving, energetic anthology of stories from around the world. Meet the Ghost with Two Faces, the Cheyenne tale of a ghost who wanted to marry, and discover a strange Australian creature (half calf-half sea) called the Bunyip. You will also share in the adventures of a funny Danish goblin who makes a life-changing decision, and a farmer from China who finds out the identity of the mysterious person he’s been sharing evening wine with. Scotland, West Africa, Ireland, Siberia, and Norwegian tales await you in “Giants, Ghosts and Goblins” by John Matthews.
This fun, whimsical and beautifully illustrated children’s folk tale book was a delight to read to my children. I highly recommend it for children everywhere!

Pages and squires gather in the courtyard of the castle to learn about the way knights behave from Master William.
“Knights” is a collection of tales that teaches readers that being a good knight (good person) is harder than it seems.
Young Tom of Warwick leaves the comfortable surroundings of his home to learn about being a knight and about chivalry. He is scared and alone and wants to return home until he meets Master William, the Armorer. Master William inspires young Tom with action-packed tales of brave men and their valiant deeds. In turn, Tom is determined to work harder so he may one day grow to be a real knight.
The tales range from the court of King Arthur to Prince Vladimir of Kiev to the ancient land of Japan and samurai warriors.
John Matthews cleverly combines the inspiring tales of learning with the present-tense teaching from Master William.
“Knights” teaches children of today that it not only takes a brave heart, but one must also know their weaknesses. The beautiful illustrations by Giovanni Manna bring the knights to life!
This reviewer highly recommends this book of inspiration, motivation, and self-discovery.
