Hi there readers and fellow authors. I am Willie Tee and I send out newsletters from time to time to keep you informed of the progress I am making in the promotion of my book, The Winds of Destiny, 2nd Edition. I will mention in my newsletter book festivals, speaking engagements and book signings that I attended or will attend in the future. I also inform readers of other fellow authors that I have met and the titles of their books. Importantly, I want to encourage others to become authors, a dream come true, and to provide them guidance on how to become skillful authors.

Subject: Challenges & Vigils

It is a nightmare nowadays to keep my computers that I use for writing up to par and up to speed. The virus protection and spy ware remover software are making my computers slower than molasses on a cold day at Antarctica. I know it has been a while since I have sent you readers a newsletter, but I have been busy attending candle light vigils for people that were slain at Richmond, speaking at domestic violence seminars, and attending town hall meetings where the Richmond Chief of Police, Mr. Rodney Monroe, promotes his community policing programs.

I was asked recently to be the Vice President of the nonprofit organization, Read Aloud Virginia (RAV). I accepted the nomination. Volunteers from RAV read books aloud to children at schools, give the children free donated books, and encourage the children to take the books home so that their parents can read aloud to them. Children acquire better reading skills when their parents read aloud to them. I was asked by a former Richmond City Councilman to donate books to senior citizens. I feel that this request is an initiative for a seniors reading and book donation program that I will participate in. I feel that my book and others, which are visits to yester year and southern rural living, will brighten senior citizens’ day.

There are many activities now that are geared towards reducing violence in the communities and I have met Mr. Daryl Holland, the Director of the Richmond Youths for Social Change and Pastor Joe Ellison, the Chairman of the Richmond Commission for Reduction of Youth Violence. I have also met Chief Rodney Monroe, who will be at the Read Aloud Event at Byrd Theater on October 15, 2005. I will speak at this event also and autograph books. Mr. Holland asked me to find assistance for a young teenage or adult male who has reading comprehension problems. I know that some of you are involved in reading literacy programs, so please email me if you can be of assistance to this youth and others.

If some of you are wondering why I am involved with several organizations that work to reduce domestic and community violence, my book or real life story indicates why. I am shocked by cultural crimes that are being committed worldwide. I know that various cultures and races have committed genocide and murder on a large scale. However I have been appalled by the acts of genocide in Rwanda and Sudan, which are African countries. If we counted the number of murders that have occurred over the years, we would see high numbers of deaths by violence in this country also.

I am big on reading, because it gave me writing and reading skills that have supported my authorship. I also believe that children who receive proper educations are more motivated towards assimilating into the system and succeeding. Through teachings and my own observations, I have learned that assimilating into our society is the key for success. This is how various other cultures that have immigrated to this country have become highly successful.

I was recently shocked by the high illiteracy rate at Petersburg, Virginia, though public education is available. Studies show that when the parents are illiterate, their children stand a greater chance of being that way also. In a nutshell, this indicates that if a corporation was considering moving to a city or county and their screening revealed that the populace did not have the educational skills to do the jobs; The corporation would either go elsewhere or bring in people from other regions or countries that possess the skills.

I have written about several issues that needed to be addressed. Bill Cosby often makes comments in regards to these issues, but he throws a big bucket of cold water when he does. His comments are scathing but true. I admire Mr. Cosby for saying what he does, because some people need to be slapped down verbally, so that they can “get back up again” in a positive way. I have said a mouthfull and will leave this along. I will close by saying that I appreciate your support as readers and fellow authors. I heard that there is going to be a million men march soon. We should make it a million women and men march to promote education and the reduction of violence in the households and the communities.

Prayers & Thoughts

I know that a few of you readers have not been in the best of health. I pray that the Heavenly Father looks down on you and lays his healing hand upon your body and soul. Have faith despite your sickness and illness. Though I was very ill, God laid his hand on me and I wrote three books. I was made better after completing these tasks. I accomplished weighty tasks, but he is the power and the glory. It is eleven at night on a Monday night. I sit here composing and writing, because I have the faith and strength to carry on.

One day when I was fourteen years old, I was toiling in the hot tobacco field and it was one hundred degrees in the shade. I looked upwards towards the heavens and said, “God, it sure is hot here in this tobacco field. Lord have mercy. But I have faith that one day you will deliver me from this hard work, toil, and suffering.” God did, because it was a task of humility.

My faith has brought me to where I am now and in a humble way. God needs broken and humble people to do his biding and show the world that he can motivate people to do wondrous things. I pray to be more humble in his sight and to forgive those who envy the gifts that God has given to others. Why should a person be envious of others when Our Father gave us each a special gift or talent? We must always praise and thank him.
