Subject: Barbaras Silkstone's December Newsletter

Welcome back.
My “monthly” newsletter has become a quarterly event. I apologize for not being able to keep up! Why is time so darn hard to come by? I have asked Santa for that 8th day in the week that we all talk about. I shall call it “Me - Day” …when it arrives…if it arrives.

My wish is to share with you many of the incredible stories I encountered during my journey into the minds of so many men. It was impossible to squeeze all the adventures into one book. Each day, as I zip around doing my book talks, I have more book related adventures.

Thanks again to the wonderful ladies of Brandeis University National Women’s Committee for being a terrific audience. Hugs to the ladies from Whisper Walk Singles who were so gracious. And a special thanks to Gloria for all her efforts. Once again…thanks to Lois Niesen for inviting me to sign books at the “Meet Me Holiday Art Festival” – as usual, it was lots of fun.

Hope you find this Newsletter informative and enjoyable!
Please forward it to friends you feel would be interested.

Until next quarter…

With love and laughter,

“She just kept hanging around and I just kept kind of working. It happens that way. It’s a sneaky thing. It’s an infiltration of sorts. It’s never a direct assault. They creep into your closets and before you know it - you’re buying furniture together.”
Frank, publishing executive, 42

I laugh at myself as I read Frank’s words. I think back…
Once upon a time I had a friend - Heather. She caught the eye of a very wealthy married man. Heather asked my opinion before she succumbed to his advances. Being “Miss Goodie - 2 - Shoes,” I advised her not to get involved. I cautioned her that she would be causing untold pain for the wife, the family and probably herself. Heather stepped over my advice even as the words left my lips.

Within a few weeks, Mr. Mega - Bucks left his wife and family for Heather. Eventually, he married Heather and put her up in fabulous digs in the Hamptons and Palm Springs.

Whenever he was asked how their love affair came to be, he would recount the following:
“She kept leaving things in my closet. Eventually everything she owned was at my place so I married her, just to get some closet space.”

As I laughed, I wondered … are relationships like some sort of board game? If you get all your pieces onto the other guy’s side … do you win?

P.S. Thanks to the wonderful ladies who wrote into Oprah’s chat room to ask for more of my advice. I hope my little blurbs were of some assistance. I can only speak from what I gleaned during the six years of interviewing over 500 men – which leads me to remain personally on guard and unavailable…and it’s actually pretty darn great!

He’s Just Not That Into you: The No - Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys
By: Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo
This book was published in 2004. I have just gotten around to reading it. Before I comment, I would love to have MY readers’ thoughts on this book. Please let me hear from you…let’s talk!

What is with guys and the “nervous knee” thing? It’s an unconscious tick that most men have. Yuck! (I don’t remember guys doing it years ago. Is there something in our drinking water or is it just too much channel - surfing?)
I have observed lawyers and business men are frantic right - knee thumpers; whereas doctors almost never thump. Why is that? Is it something they learn not to do, in med school?
Very curious….
