Subject: 45 Down and Counting

Thanksgiving is approaching and it's a well know fact that between now and Chistmas half of all books are sold. So my calendar is set for a big Christmas push
of Trouble in Trinidad.

It will be the Texas Book Festival in Austin in mid-November with stops in Round Rock and New Braunfels. Then six crowded malls in North Texas for the busy weekend after Thanksgiving. Then on to West Virginia, Maryland, Philadelphia and New Jersey and six more malls filled with holiday shoppers looking for just the right gift--which of course is a hardcopy of Trouble in Trinidad or an audio CD version for those who prefer to listen rather than read. Then a few more local malls to fill out the year then Janet will make me slow down to enjoy Christmas.

When the dust settles there will be only 5 more states to visit, Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska and Hawaii. For those who haven't been to Virginia in October, Wisconsin on a cool summer day or Manhattan during rush hour, you've missed something quite beautiful and amazing. American is so vast the mind can scarcely grasp it. Now when someone mentions Missoula, Montana or Charlotte, North Carolina an image pops up immediately in my mind--yes I've been there. That's a neat place. I really liked it.

I love being a writer. It is so much fun to create characters and to live their lives, and feel their pains and joys as you weave events into a a compelling story. It is so cool to travel 2000 miles and walk into a bookstore to see a big sign welcoming you and seeing lots of friendly people eager to talk and share their love of literature. I love it when I walk into a store and a stranger is waiting eagerly to talk to me about Stan Turner, Kevin Wells or Erica Fox. I love it when I get emails from readers who have just finished one of my novels and liked it so much that they just had to tell me. I love it when I get to meet and talk to the great writers of our times as conferences and trade shows. Yes, writing is a great profession and I thank God for guiding me to it.

I hope between now and Christmas to see many of you out on the road. Please come by and say hello if you get a chance or if I'm not coming your way and you want to talk, send me an email. I'd love to hear from you. Have a safe Halloween.

P.S. The audio CD version of Trouble in Trinidad is now available at Give it a try, the Kirkwood Studios did a great job producing it. The cheapest places right now to get Trouble in Trinidad are and both offering at least a 20% discount.
