Subject: Wheatgrass - Gremlin
I am sorry the gremlins got into the send button yesterday, so my newsletter was incomplete ...
here goes again ...
It's a pleasure for me to give you a concise sketch of my fav plant, Wheatgrass: Natures Superfood.
Wheatgrass is natures most dynamic foodstuff. It has been intensively researched in the United States since the 1930's.
The reason for this research was to improve the nutrition of animal feed. It was found that wheatgrass provided very impressive amounts of nutrition and that animals fed on this young grass gained weight faster, and were free of common health problems.
Many experiments involved giving wheatgrass and other 'live-foods' such as sprouts to very old animals.
In one experiment they gave these immature foods to very old rats. It was found that in a short space of time these old rats became young again. It was amazing! They became youthful once more and playful. You see, you can teach old dogs new tricks!
Around this time scientists discovered root-auxin in plant roots. Root auxin is probably the most miraculous substance on earth. It induces growth of its own kind of activity – a youth auxin will grow youthful cells!
So, the young wheatplant contains substances that can actually encourage our cells to grow younger instead of older as the years go by!
Why is wheatgrass so Healing and Rejuvinating?
It has an abundance of vitamins A,B,C and E which makes it anti-oxidant. There are many other vitamins in wheatgrass.
Scientists discovered that the vitamin C value increased by 600% during the first few days of germination.
In 4 days of sprouting the vitamin E content of wheat increased by 300%.
Some of the vitamin B complex compounds increased by 600%.
It also contains the elusive vitamins B12 and B17. Anecdotal evidence supports the view that B17 is effective in the fight against some cancers.
Wheatgrass delivers live, Active Enzymes.
Enzymes are important biological catalysts which are fundamentally necessary for life processes. They die when heated, so we won't find them in cooked food.
Wheatgrass, with its high enzyme content boosts the system by enriching and cleaning the blood, removing wastes, attacking viruses and enhancing digestion and metabolism.
Nobel Prize winner, Dr James B Sumner, claims that the tired, run-down, 'middle-age'feeling is due to diminished enzymes.
I'd like to tell you about someone who came for wheatgrass juice about 10 years ago. He was a well-known photographer and he was suffering from high blood pressure. It was so severe he could scarcely walk, think or talk.
When I suggested he takes 2 tots a day, he refused to listen and insisted on taking 1 or 2 glasses a day (! was selling wheatgrass juice blended with water, honey and medicinal plants/flowers. To make 14 tots for a week which equals 2 tots a day – add 1 large handful of washed and chopped wheatgrass to 1 pint or ½ liter of cold water). So I gave him a 2 liter bottle of wheatgrass juice and told him to come back in a weeks time.
Well, when he did the change was incredible! His legs, which had been badly swollen, were almost back to normal size, there was a spring in his step and his outlook was very positive. In no time at all he was back to his old self, and went on to have an exhibition of his work in New York.
In my many years of growing wheatgrass and supplying wheatgrass juice blends, there have been many success stories.
To get back to the healing aspects of wheatgrass. Chlorophyll constitutes 70% of the solute of wheatgrass and has been extensively tested for its extraordinary healing powers. This green, 'life – blood' of the plant draws its energy from the light of the sun and has the ability to infuse our bloodstreams with healing and regeneration.
It has been proved therapeutically effective in a wide range of disorders: external and deep internal infections such as sinusitis, osteomylitis, pyorrhea, gastric ulcers, etc. Chronic diseases such as anemia, arteriosclerosis and mental depression.
Dr E Pfeiffer, a biodynamic agricultural researcher, proved that on the 8th day of growth all essential and 17 total amino acids are present in wheatgrass.
Amino acids are the building blocks vital for processes as diverse as cell regeneration, and the building of organs, blood cells and muscle tissue.
Because of our diet most of us have acidic bodies.Wheatgrass is very alkaline. It is 2 times more alkaline than spinach which is the most alkaline of all vegetables.
The reason wheatgrass is so alkaline is because it is host to minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium. Magnesium, which is the central atom of the chlorophyll molecule, aids calcium and other elements to be absorbed by the bones. It will help boost your bone strength.
Depleted magnesium reserves in your body can lead to a variety of illnesses, including cramps, heart problems and an overtaxed nervous system.
Alkaline minerals also neutralize poisons, such as uric and other acids which are released during the detoxification process. Make no mistake, wheatgrass is very detoxifying. That is why we always start with just a tot or 2 a day and increase the dose gradually as our bodies adapt to its powers and start working with it.
You do not have to embark on a stringent dietary regime to benefit from wheatgrass juice. Just a glass a day works wonders!
I would be very grateful to hear any results you may have with wheatgrass. I am planning another book on the subject this year and would love to include your anecdotes. Please use my Authors den Message Board.
