A conspiracy story that is fiction based on fact and gives us an idea of what is to come in 2012. Lots of flying (the heroine is a pilot) and romance...

How To Get Your Work Published-Sherry Gibson

This is a subject most writers are interested in. I struggled with this this same question myself, after finishing my first novel, Only a Game.

Finish your project! Write it, rewrite it and fine tune it until you are positive it is the best job you can do. Once you have the finished project in your hand, it's time to look for a publisher.

For the unknown writer, finding a publisher is very difficult. I will not say it's easy, but it can be done and it is being done today. Many new authors are going through POD (Pay On Demand) publishing companies to get their work out before the public. This is expensive, though much less expensive than the 'Vanity' presses of yesterday.

When your work is ready to be sent out to the publishers, be prepared to do your homework and lots of research. It does no good to send your book of poetry out to a publishing company that tells you they are intersted only in "how to" manuals. You must match your work with what the publisher wants.

Once you find a publisher that may be intersted in the type of book you have written, READ and FOLLOW their submission guidelines. You can find the publishing companies on the internet and those accepting manuscripts are very specific about their submission guidelines. If you have used your talent and your energy to finally complette that novel, don't take shortcuts now. Follow through by finding the right publisher and following their guidelines.

When searching through publishing companies you are going to find many that are not accepting unsolictied manuscripts. Write them a short, to the point letter about your novel and ask if they are interested in letting you submit it to them. Most companies will accept the cover letter via email. Use it.

If a publishing company isn't accepting manuscripts that are sent in by the writer, then it's a waste of time to send your work to them. Many of the bigger publishing houses will only accept manuscripts presented to them from an agent. Finding an honest, good agent is almost as difficult as finding a publisher to even read your manuscript!

I went through all of this when trying to find a publisher for Only a Game. Even with all the closed doors, I still kept investigating and researching and found a few companies out there that are doing things a bit differently. They are NOT the big well known publishing houses we all dream of being connected with, but they are willing to take a chance on a new author and willing to pay you for your work if it is accepted!

Of course I am going to use "Publish America" as my example because they are the company publishing my new novel. They charge the author NOTHING. They pay royalties to the author on any books that are sold, just like the big companies do.

Some may refer to this type of company as POD company but if you really investigate it, it's not the same thing. This is an inbetween company that does publish your work, and you pay nothing! I keep repeating that because there are some well know POD companies that charge you for printing your books. Some you pay all the costs up front and then receive 100% of the sales. Others charge you much less up front, but pay you about the same royalties as Publish America, on any books sold.

I guess it's a matter of pride with me, but why do I want to pay money out of my own pocket to have my book published, if it's a good novel and I can find a company willing to take the risk for me?

I know many of you are serious writers and wanting to discover how to get your work published. Some of you have already found the path. I am just wanting to help those who are ready to take this step, to find a publisher out there willing to help you, the unknown writer.

I invite each of you, interested in getting your work published, to visit, www.publishamerica.com and see what they have to offer. If you don't like what you see there, please don't give up! Keep researching the market until you find a publisher willing to take a chance on your work. Good luck and let me know how you do. I care.
