Subject: One Year Ago This Month

Editor: Sherry L Gibson
Co Editor: Sharon Sanders

One year ago in August, I received a letter from Publish America saying they accepted my book, Only a Game, for publication and would be sending me a contract if I wanted to be part of the Publish America team. It was a long year as I waited for my book to be released! Some days the excitement was so overwhelming I did not know what to do with myself. Other days I would become frightened and worry that something would fall through. Now, one year later, my book has been released and has been out on the market since June, though the official release date was set in July 2003.
Today I celebrate the beginning of another year, this time, one of learning the ropes of book promoting and selling!

My first royalty check for Only a Game will be sent to me the last week of this month. I'm so excited about receiving it and again, a little frightened to find out how well or how poorly Only a Game has done in the first six weeks it was out on the market.

If you haven't purchased your copy of Only a Game, please check it out and see what all the excitement is about! You can find out more about the book by visiting my website at www.sherrygibson.com You can also visit www.publishamerica.com and see my book and the work of all the other Publish America authors. Only a Game is also on sale at all the major online book stores or can be purchased through any of the major bookstores near you.

I survived my first book signing on August 02, 2003. The book signing was hosted by Candlelight Creations in Weaubleau Missouri. Hubby and I live in rural Missouri and this is a tiny town close to our farm. The book signing was a nice success and you can view pictures of it at www.sherrygibson.com under updates. For those of you receiving this newsletter who are living with Lupus, you will understand when I say I was very ill during my first book signing! I made the 1,400-mile trip home for vacation and my first book signing and arrived feeling poorly. By Saturday I was running a 103' fever and wasn't at all sure I would make the book signing. With the love and help of my family, I arrived at my book signing and was able to make it through the two-hour signing. Seems I had a kidney infection, which in turn led to a nasty Lupus flare and almost ruined my vacation time at home. When one has an autoimmune problem or chronic illness, the task of attending prearranged functions can pose a big problem. Even so, I want to say that it can be done, with lots of planning ahead and plenty of helping hands when they are needed! All I had to do was get dressed and arrive at the book signing. Even that wasn't easy but I made it! My family was there to take care of absolutely everything else for me. I signed the books and talked to the people that attended the book signing, but my family was there to set it all up, to greet the guests and to handle all the other details for me.

I am very proud to announce that Lynn Barry, author of "Puddles" and "BJoyfl" was chosen to represent Independence America, a new division of Publish America! I am so proud of Lynn and the work she has done. I can vouch for the facts that she's been there to help new P/A authors learn the ropes and to answer questions that we all have coming in the front door. If you haven't read any of Lynn's work, please check it out at www.publishamerica.com

I received news from author Doug Boren that Publish America has recently released his book "Beyond the Horizon". I am sending him a check Monday for an autographed copy. I've waited a very long time to read this book! If any of you are interested in a good historical fiction novel during the Civil war era, you don't want to miss this one! Doug's book can found at www.publishamerica.com

If any of you reading this newsletter has received a copy of my books, Only a Game, and read it, I'm anxious to hear from you about it. Your input is very important to me. I can always use a review from you too! A review only takes a few minutes and you can easily get to a page for a review by visiting my website, www.sherrygibson.com and going to updates. Just click on the book cover and it will take you where you need to go to leave me a review! Clistie Woods, my website designer, has done an awesome job in making things easy for you!

MORE NEWS

Rik Woods, my son-in-law, has just had his collection of poetry accepted for publication through Publish America. I want to offer him a big 'Congratulations' on a job well done. I am very proud of his accomplishments as an author! I will be telling you more about his poetry collection in a future newsletter.

Now that vacation time is behind me and I have this latest Lupus flare under control, I hope to get my newsletter up and going on a regular basis once again.

I am still accepting any articles, stories or poetry from those living with Lupus or other chronic illnesses that want to help me spread the word that though we may be suffering from these things, we are still very productive individuals and much more than just our disease!
