We bridged the miles on the net,
And fell in love before we met,
It did not happen over night,
But once we did it felt so right.
And from your home so far away,
You came to me one August day,
Our two hearts, which love, had beckoned,
Came together on August 2nd
On the day you came so far,
I gave you the keys to your new car,
But more important than that part,
You also had the keys to my heart.
In the car I asked you again,
The question I'd asked now and then,
And when you said you would be my wife,
It was the happiest day of my life.
We stood on Topsail Beach at sunset,
The day after the day we met,
Many times you asked that day,
If I was sure that you should stay.
I said to you of course my dear,
My answer you were glad to hear,
I told you that I love you so,
And never wanted you to go.
That night we made love, it was heaven,
In our surfside room number seven,
Long before the night was done,
Our hearts, minds, bodies and souls were one.
Our week together went by too fast,
I kept wishing it could last,
But we knew it had to be,
And so you said goodbye to me.
At the airport when we parted,
I sat and cried broken hearted,
I went home and cried all night,
Even though it would be all right.
I knew in just three weeks I'd see,
You returning home to me,
I knew that's how it would be,
Because I love you and you love me.
You left some things before you went,
Like the sweatshirt with your scent,
Many pictures all over the place,
In every room I could see your face.
Eighteen days we were apart,
Every minute broke my heart,
I cried each day and every night,
And left burning our porch light.
A symbol of love for all to see,
While you were apart from me,
I left it on night and day,
So that you could find your way.
All my hopes and dreams and fears,
I cried an ocean full of tears,
Only one thing could make it right,
That was you on a southbound flight.
The 25th of August was the day,
You got on a plane so far away,
And headed south to start a new life,
As my lover, friend and wife,
But I couldn't take another minute,
Of my life without you in it,
So I made an early morning flight,
Just to see that you were all right.
In your eyes I could see,
Such surprise when you saw me,
You couldn't believe that I was there,
But I would have met you anywhere.
We've moved since then and made a home,
A place of our own where our love has grown,
Of all the days together we've had,
Most were happy, a few were sad.
As I sit here in our home,
After reading this love poem,
I will give you in a moment, a kiss,
But before I do you must know this.
When I touch your lips, it's more than a kiss,
It's what it means, which is this,
All of my love, all of my days,
For the rest of my life, I will love you always.
