Sometimes, holding onto memories is good, but when we find ourselves living just for the memories, it is time to toss them like we do garbage so they don't become health hazards, as garbage does when kept too long.

Memories

Memories, leftovers from the past

Yesterdays, last week, last year.

What should I do with them?

Do I just sit and savor them

Relishing the good ones and ruing the bad,

Or do I toss them all

Like I do garbage, or old clothes?

Can they really help me to grow, expand,

To have a brighter, better tomorrow?

Or will keeping them just rehash my pain, rekindle my sorrow?

Barbara, I've learned that there's usually nothing to go back to, so "You gotta keep moving forward. You can't go back." These words were seared into my heart as if by a branding iron one day and I am constantly on the move--determined to move forward and not look back--too often, anyway!
