Life's Lessons
The truly important lessons of life
Hurt too much to be repeated.
These lessons bring with them much strife
For those of us who are greeted
By their searing pain, heartaches and such
That take us by a surprising gentle touch
At first, when we are at ease.
They tease away our resistance, and they appease
Us with feelings of delight -at first.
Because we are not alert, we get taken in.
Then we realize too late, the price we must pay
For just a fleeting moment of pleasure along life's uncertain way.
