This poem was written after seeing the "Passion of the Christ" and I hope that my decision to follow Christ's teachings stays with me to the end.

Jesus,  My Lord

Only You my Lord

could survive such tortures.

Only You my Lord

could withstand such pain,

suffering and insults

and remain

so calm, loving, forgiving;

and be ready to die for me.

Your love,

Your pain and suffering
(which to me are ‘just words’
for it happened so long ago)
I don’t want to see,

nor to accept my responsibility

   for inflicting them on You;

yet You are still ready to die for me.
Only You my Lord
can be so patient
and love me unconditionally,

even in my ignorance

and mindless transgressions

which keep spreading continually

from me to the world;

yet You are ready to die for me.

Jesus, my Lord,
I’m like Thomas
who had to see to believe;
I too had to see
to realise how guilty I am
of sending You to the Cross,
the tortures, the pain and the shame;

yet You are ready to die for me again, and again, and again
… and I bow my head in sorrow and shame…

What life there is

on this earth for me

oh Jesus, my Lord,

please let me be

an example of Your love

for all to see…

… You won’t have to die again for me.

I don't know how anyone could remain unmoved by the film 'Passion of the Christ' obviously it inspired you. At the time I saw it I wasn't sure I would want to watch it again, but I think we all need reminding of what He endured for us. As you point out 'words' don't always bring us face to face with the reality of his sacrifice, because we don't want to understand and face up to our responsibilty's or the consequences of our actions. <> < Jackie

Denise, I also saw Passion of the Christ and it was awesome. I knew that Jesus had suffered and died for me but I didn't know how deep was His pain and torture. I hope you keep Him in your heart, always Denise. Allow Him to walk beside you. Humans can fail you...but Jesus never will.
