No Warning

This poem was written shortly after my father's death which, although expected was very sudden.

No Warning


We knew you'd come
One day quite soon,
But you arrived
In the shade and gloom.


He was alone,
Nobody knew,
No-one was there,
Not even the crew.


You took his fight,
His warmth, his sigh.
You did not warn
That this was 'goodbye'.
