Doves of a Feather
The two of them sit close and tight
From time to time their feathers flutter in the light
The two - a he and she
Have been lovers on a tree
Their life began some months ago
Now they are mature doves
And when the roof is hot and shining bright
They come each day to entertain
The couple on the other side
They look and watch, and cannot fathom
Why humans do not see
That only love can keep the world from insanity
The outside lovers coo and kiss
They walk around each other playing,
Till it’s time for their games to end
By loving not pretending
Those two inside have long forgotten
Their little friends outside
For they too, played well together
And soon, the time was ripe for remembering
They remember how, long ago
They were young and ready for life
Ready for love - till death do us part
And, they keep on, remembering…
