My 2011 vacation wasn't much as far as travel or seeing new things were concerned, but it seemed like the familiar places I did visit had a different feel to them. Like coming back each time to check on old acquaintences.

Before the summer starts to fade,

I venture north to visit family and friends.

For years, I've often returned to those little places

and their sets of vintage transportation.

An antique train yard which often seems

to change at a snail's pace, but still a

friendly stop full of clattering time machines.

On this day, "Funny face" waits at the ticket window

while a yellow paper points the way to where the old cars

depart and the choo-choo leaves East Union.

A ride through the country on an old street car,

just like a hot dog at a baseball game.

and the signs return to a time when even the  big cities

seemed innocent while Friendly Bob Adams' secretary played Mrs. Claus.

The loud and busy barns of classic cars,

surrounded by a malt shop,

Curly hides in the garage

While everyone swoons at the cars of the stars

and the classic cars of everytime

Tin Lizzies to muscle cars

Holy graveyards, Batman!

We're parked next to Grandpa Munster!

The Love Bug uses Gulfpride?

Yabba-Dabba-Doo and Scooby-Do too.

Boss Hogg's not afraid of no ghosts,

But KITT and the General Lee?.

Car 54 where are you?

.

They're always there,

Late each summer

old friends we love to visit.
