Sammi-girl

She sits upon a windowsill
surveying all that's hers,
her needs supplied, her life is good
she watches and she purrs.

Time was, a small black kitten,
she was wild as she could be,
she'd spy on us from darkened woods
or high up in a tree.

She'd make herself invisible
until the cloak of night,
she'd slowly creep up to the house
preparing to take flight.

The snacks that we put out for her
would overcome her fear,
she'd eat while watching nervously
to make sure none came near.

And as the weeks and months went by
she felt herself grow tame,
she let the humans touch her
and she liked her given name.

One day when snow was on the ground
and ice covered the trees,
the humans called and called for her
afraid that she might freeze.

And Sammi-girl, with all the trust
her courage could provide,
allowed the man to pick her up
and carry her inside.

She found such warmth, such love and joy
she knew she'd never stray,
she made her home within those walls
and there she is, today.

She sits upon a windowsill
surveying all that's hers,
her needs supplied, her life is good
she watches and she purrs.

~ Connie ~

"I'd rather be a doorkeeper
in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents
of wickedness."

(Psalm 84:10 KJV)

Such a beautiful story! I love the line, "she felt herself grow tame" Thanks for sharing Sammi-girl's story with us.
You have been faithful doorkeepers.
