THE DEAD OF NIGHT
Sometimes,
In the dead of night
I go out and look above
What I see there
Puts my life in perspective
And proves God’s love
He who created the stars and the planets
That go on farther than my eyes can see
Sent His Son to die the cruelest death
Upon a rough hewed tree
For no other purpose
Than to save the likes of me
A weak and sinful creature
With selfishness at my core
Totally unworthy of salvation
He willing sacrificed His Son for
He knew every sin I would ever commit
Before I was in my mother’s womb,
Yet, offered His Son to a human tomb
To save me, a sinner, from certain doom.
Yes, when I look upon the stars above
I am certain of my God’s love
And know that Jesus died upon that tree
To set me, the sinner, free
So that when I die together He and I will be.
