Loneliness

This is one of the poems from my book Songs of Survival: Life is a Journey. I think some of you may remember it, but with all the new members I thought it might be a good time to repost it.

Loneliness

Darkness awaits me
Behind a door called loneliness
At the end of the hall.
It stalks my days
Waiting to welcome me
Into the coldness again.
Its goal--to chill my rest
With memories of the warmth
I can only feel in my dreams
Of what life used to be like
Before you left.

It calls to me like a siren’s song
Casting a spell of longing.
It tempts me to embrace
Its bittersweet melody,
And make it my anthem.
To hold it close and make it mine.
To sip it like a vintage wine
Whose dregs invest the soul
With forgetfulness
Of what love is.

But my soul repels its grasping claws.
Fervid by what used to be
I refuse any destiny so bleak.
I will continue to search
For my mated soul without human relent
For the choice is mine and the way is clear
As long as I have breath
The knob can rattle and the song can shatter the air,
But my hand will not open the door
To loneliness and despair.

Great job Bobbi! So much emotion in your words. Loneliness is such a terrible disease. I guess we all open the door at some point in our lives. But I prefer to slam it shut!

Bee there done that and don't ever want to do it again. I didn't like the emotions then and I certainly won't like them now. This is a really well written and emotional poem. I have opened that door to loneliness and despair many times, but lately I have been able to enjoy wha life I have left. That's what family and friends are for; tolighten our mood and help us forget the troubled past. Thank you for sharing Bobbi, this is a real winner.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

This is an incredible poem. Sometimes it's so easy to isolate, which then only begins the vicious cycle of more loneliness, more despair, further isolation. Beautiful use of words here. Be good.

Very nicely done and well worth reposting, this gives strength to people who may be struggling on the border and desparatedly trying to keep that door shut...
