Broken Heart, Cold Blood

© Megan Lutz

feel the water between the toes,
the black moon sings the sad song,
trees wave their arms in protest,
the burning town could be seen…

sweet heart, how you should not have tried,
to hurt me in such a way,
didn’t you know that I loved you so,
with each breath I breathed, I did it for you…

you hurt me with you words,
the way you went behind my back,
turned my love into hate,
turned my life into death…

went behind my back,
smiled that sweet smile at all the men,
turned my bitter heart,
into raging jealously…

I can still see you there,
The figure in white,
Dancing under the silver moon,
Earth child, you knew…

You knew that if I gave up love,
I would turn back to what I was,
You wanted this,
You wanted an excuse to kill me…

My heart once alive with love,
Now broken and torn under the moon,
My blood once warm with love,
Now cold, with your deceit…

How pretty you looked there,
Hanging from the tree,
Same tree that we made love under,
The tree that you died under…

The rope bit into your neck,
Just as your actions stabbed my heart,
I watched you hang there, eyes pleading to me,
And I felt nothing at all…

I was void of emotion,
Eyes so black even I could see,
I watched the life drain from your eyes,
As your sweet neck snapped.
