This is an old one, and we are beyond that battle now. On the day I wrote it, though, it was all too real. I posted this for Karen Vanderlaan, so she'd know the battle is not in vain. And, yes, it involves the whole family.
kick up endless eddies,
stirring dust of memories --
Third time a charm?
Three strikes, you're out?
My chaotic mind
struggles to grasp reality.
Blue eyes blink back tears:
"If this is a dream,
I'm ready to wake up now!"
Pain knows no justice,
its relentless pressure
strikes her body and
my heart with equal force.
A slippery hill lies ahead,
doubts assail from every side.
Only one thing remains sure:
we will fight.
By God, we will fight!
