I Need A Star

I still wish on the first star I see each night. It's not that I believe but that the wish is a mantra to remind me of what is important.

I need a star
     in this dark sky
One bright star
     on which I may wish

I need a wish
     a heartfelt mantra
To believe in
     granting me hope

I need a hope
     a bright ray
Shining and reflecting
     like Winter moon

I need a moon
     and spangled star
Piercing the sky dark
     of my diminished soul

I need a soul
     made intact again
By wishes and hopes
Granted by a star.

Being of advanced years myself, your poems filled with longing resonate with me. Reading this one I had a strong image of crocheting -- of reaching to pick up a thread and pulling it through to make a stitch, reaching for the next and pulling to make another, and on and on until a pattern is created. You do have a way with words and a knack for creating a beautiful structure.

Awwwww, so gently written. Think we could all use a star to wish upon.....
