Weary Warrior

On a patio sofa
He sleeps
Soundly -- peacefully
Head tilted -- body sprawled

Distant lawn mower songs
Accompany his snoring melodies
As she -- sitting nearby
Watches and appraises him

His years have not been easy
Hard work -- lots of hardship
Strife and disappointment
Dreams pursued and un-attained

Yet there is still sparkle in his eyes
Still joy and affection in his heart
His voice still rings strong and clear
His laughter hardy and genuine

These days his desires are few
And most definitely simple
Good food -- his favorite music
Football -- their loving relationship

She dubs him
Her joy -- her blessing
She dubs him
Weary Warrior

Gwen,
It takes a lot of faith and thankfulness to be happy with what we have. A great poem that teaches that lesson. Hugs,

Gwen - Your love comes through your words.

Yet there is still sparkle in his eyes
Still joy and affection in his heart
His voice still rings strong and clear
His laughter hardy and genuine

As long as he has these, he is not only a weary warrior but a victorious one. - David

I really liked this one, it is honest and open and describes a good many of us as we age and learn to accept that life was a journey of paths, some we found the end of others we had to back track on...either way we did our best.
