Lie Back and Think of England
by Anthony (Tony) Sharp

This is my third published book which is a late "period piece" set in England at a time when the population was predominantly white. Fred Pike's horrendous dream heralds..

My life was lowered into the ground

My life was lowered into the ground

My future stayed wrapped around my finger

I stand in the dirt, dazed and confused, breathing loss

    Greeting a vow

The light gave way to the cloudy cliché

My tear basking in its ray

Being numb is not a feeling

The moment is mine, am I being greedy?

The fresh air was her only release

A remedy for the morning after

A cleansing of her polluted veins

    The previous evening’s escapades

I imagine it was only an instant

    A second’s confusion caused a moments destruction

    It was all it took

    Exhaustion her killer

Struggling to breathe, every bone broken

Not a single word was spoken

    She exhaled the pollution

    And breathed in life

Do I understand? Did this happen to me?

A teenage wife, dying in anarchy

Vows spoken barely a month ago

Now I’ll live my lonely life, waiting my turn
