Melancholy Afternoon

Must we look before we see

The simple things in front of thee

Must we touch before we feel

Our sorrowed heart begins to heal

Must we listen before we hear

The Angelic chorus drawing near

Must we speak before it’s said

I should have told him, now he’s dead

Must we laugh before we cry

Deflecting pain we can’t deny

Must we like before we love

Or wait for guidance from above

Must we live before we die

Sadly not as time flies by

Such a classic ring to this, Patrick. You are a writer of such depth and disciplined craftsmanship - it takes much application to be able to produce a piece that seems to flow with such effortless panache and yet remain absolutely spot-on in metre and rhythm. And you have selected and catalogued your thoughts with great care. A great poem that is both articulate and profound. Thank you, Kate xx

A perfect poem to go with this rain we've been having, plus finding out yesterday that a friend in Canada lost her dog weeks after losing her kittycat. Sad one, Patrick; well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
