Passing below the Golden Gate Bridge, site of many suicides

Photo: Patrick Granfors

Belly of the Beast

A broken heart

A crushed career

It all looks the same

From here

Slippery bridge rails up above

Icy waters down below

Wait for someone’s misery

To offer up their final throw

It’s over quickly so they say

And quite a shock to say the least

Not the last thing I’d like to see

The rising belly of the beast

Wow! I visited the Golden Gate back in 1980...awesome sight. Poor souls that decide there's nothing worth living for in this world. What a horrible end! Very well penned my friend.

And I expected a poem about a dragon. This is a different kind of roar. Good use of that strange picture as your muse. e

People talk themselves in to suicide a while before it occurs. You have a written a realistic depiction of a dreadful event.

Sausalito native here, before and after the bridge was build, pride of Californians and sometimes disgraced by poor souls that didn't knew better how to cope with the real life issues. Suicide ain't no solution.

I used to live right near there. Bay and Laguna. People would say to me: "This is SF. If you can't have fun here, there's the God-damned bridge!" Made sure to have fun, even if I was pretending.

Still can't understand what drives people to do this; once they do it, they can't come back or make amends. Sad!

Powerful write and arresting piccy!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Whoa ...
That is a long way to fall.
I like this Pat. But I am always stunned
at what some people choose as options.
