The greatest generation.

My father in law, Ted Clemens served on the Navy's Most Famous aircraft carrier Enterprise, the Big “E,” during World War II. Some of those experiences have been chronicled in articles posted by Eileen. These are true stories that forged the America we were and became. Today is his 87th birthday and I wish to honor him. Please join me. He’s been bitching about Albuquerque’s nasty winter this year (and rightly so). Maybe a little Den cheer can help thaw things out for him.

Major Ted it has been said

You are set deep in your ways

With legendary stubbornness

Your opinion rarely sways

You’ve lived the worst mankind can sling

That alone says where you’ve been

Yet you’ve managed to contain it all

To somewhere deep within

To say we owe you gratitude

Understates this nation’s debt

And I for one am here to say

That I will not forget

Yeah you’re sometimes cranky

But I’ve not been in your shoes

Though our opinions do not always match

You’ve earned your right to choose

So I wish you Happy Birthday Ted

For the stories that you’ve told

Inside that gruff exterior

Resides a heart of gold

With love and respect, Patrick

My sincerest wishes for a Happy Birthday sir. We will forever owe you so much more than Birthday Salutations for the years of service you gave to our country for our protection and freedom. We honor you for your 87 years of life dedicated to putting others' welfare before your own. Thank you. RC Henkel

Happy Birthday, Ted. My Uncle, Major Edward Hull, 90, an Air Force WWII vet, is one of the mellowist guys I know. Unfortunately watched his son plunge to his death in a friend's experimental aircraft a few years back. His adopted son, Jeff looks after him now.

Thanks for your contribution, Ted

Major Ted; I don't know you but I do know your daughter and son-in-law, whom I hold in the highest regard, and am more than happy to wish you, first of all, a highly revered World War Two veteran, secondly, the father of this wonderful woman and, last but not least, you're a man wise enough to allow your daughter to marry Patrick. So, Happy Birthday, Major Ted.
