Some days are like that.

The door is closed and latched tightly

The neighborhood dogs are barking methodically

At the clickety clacking skateboarder down on the street

Their bored cries offered to all within earshot

I’m listening but can only respond with condolences

I too am hostage

Just as surely as binds and gags secure

I am fathoms deep in its clutches

The TV is droning and reverberating like

Some airport echo chamber caught in an endless loop

The magazine pile stacked high again

Current events are no longer so

Now ready for recycling

This is not depressing

This is not about depression

Motivation is a funny thing

Adrenalin motivates but isn’t usually funny

Besides motivation is a uniquely personal matter

Spandex motivation isn’t the real thing

But does work for the general population in a variety of ways

Free hotdogs at an auto dealership is a perfect example

I’m not in the mood for hotdogs

Then there’s the dreaded “F” word to supply motivation

“Fulfilling” activities can spark motivation

But I suspect the other “F” word motivates more people

On this planet than anything other single thing

Neither “F’s” are on the docket at this moment

I am briefly motivated to move about in my easy chair

Charlie horse

That resolved I contemplate the “Z” word

There is a reason I bought this chair at a La-“Z”-Boy store

After all tomorrow is another day

“Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”

Upon honest reflection, you shared such profound wisdom, you have accomplished much, I wonder God help us, how much more you could do if motivated. You are a hostage like all of us, some of us are just bound with different leather, at least you're not making it 7 billion and one at this moment, that in itself is an accomplishment. I was just thinking Patrick, such a chair as yours might just save the world, if it has the same effect on others that is. Bless ya! I enjoyed much! Jasmin Horst

Isn't it amazing! The United States is in trouble, but most of its citizens are doing what you just described. We are an aging population and aging does that to you. However, if you are in the bread line hoping there would be an apple too, you might have gotten up at 4 AM and not lost your place in line through sleep.

However, since you are well enough off, even though you are a Californian, you can afford to do whatever you want. Instead, you got up from your La-Z-Boy and wrote this poem. Isn't that sweet? ;-)

LA-Z-BOY Recliner --- has anything ever been so aptly named????

Perhaps this poem comes close... but it's the most pleasant form of "HOSTAGERY" known to man-kind. Some of our best poetry surely came from boredom, don't you think?

Nice one Patrick. Dick

So cute! What about chocolate, or ice cream? They're pretty motivating to me :)

But I suspect the other “F” word motivates more people
On this planet than anything

I suspect you're right - especially since they say our planet will reach 7 Billion human beings this Halloween - and that's frightening.

Okay, Patrick, ol' pal. Maybe it's because it's late at night, but, to be honest, I don't know what the "F" word you're talking about.
So I guess it's time for me to get some Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”
