How can I be an honest man?
All I have ever known is dishonesty
How can I be trustworthy?
I have never been able to trust
How can I be the world’s greatest dad?
My dad was the world’s greatest, but certainly not a dad.
Everything and everyone else mattered except me.
So, someone please tell me,
How can I be?
How can I love my wife?
My dad beat my mother senselessly
How can I stay away from crime?
When it’s my only source of attention
Negative or Positive, it’s attention.
How can I not hustle?
When because of my background, my education, or my skin color no one will hire me
Tell me, how can I be?
How could I have graduated from high school?
No one else in my family did; there’s no one to help me, to guide me
How could I have been the first to go to a University?
My family had little education and absolutely no money.
So please, sir, madam, tell me how can I be?
