Yet another poem about the end of another year

2009 limped out the back door,

a dog who no longer hunts,

and dog lovers that we are

we were glad to see it go,

relieved to see it fade

into the fog of new times

to come.

Economy broken, heroes

fallen, change clamored

for and received, but too little

to fill the hoof of the

piggy bank.

Terror in the skies, in cafes,

military encampments not safe,

for safety is now an illusion

and magic tricks are not

what we need.

2010 barges in, not meek

nor mild, not tugging

on your apron like a child,

but bullies its way into our

lives seeking its fame...

wonder if in the end we will

remember its name.

Very well said, I just cannot write about this New Year yet, I am still mulling some things over in my mind and my heart just isn't into a New Year just yet. Soon though, someday soon I will accept the inevitable, the beginning of another year of struggle and dealing with people who just don't get it. A soul just gets tired of always being upbeat.
Much peace, love, and light,

Excellent poem- one of the best I've read on here about the New Year. Love it- the picture, too.

Love that first line. A unique perspective towards the end, too - the personification of 2010 seeking fame. Great write:)

The times they are a-changing, as one disillusionment poet/singer once said / If we are not careful America will no longer be ours in the very near future. Good writing.
