One should weigh the gain from sin against the ultimate price.

December snow and solemn wind--

Reminders of how oft I sinned.

The nights too long, a house too cold--

A time too bleak to be foretold.

Within the icebound days of gray

I live again my judgement day,

When hope and dread became as one

In clouds of shame--I am undone.

To know again the blossoms bright,

A setting sun, a kiss goodnight.

To wake again from colored dreams

Where joy is full, where passions gleam.

But prisms are of glass, and frail--

Without the sun, will surely fail.

As did romance the day I lied

To one for whom I would have died.

But 'tis too late, her light is gone--

Alone I greet each dreary dawn.

December snow and solemn wind--

Reminders of how oft I sinned.
