Desolation keeps house here now;
Each tidy room an empty cell.
Consolation I disavow,
For none but one can grief dispel.
Solitude’s dismal depths require
A penance spent in darkened haze.
My crying soul with one desire –
To live no more these lightless days.
Her absence is a cold abyss,
Imprisoning love’s living flame.
Rather I should die, than this –
To have a love I can’t reclaim.
