The evening is when cities come alive
When the air is cool
And the befuddled tourists leave,
Then is the time to walk
To think, to dream.
Never completely dark,
The evening lights shine like fairgrounds
And the smell of food is everywhere
The lights shining brightly,
The people heading to parties,
This is the city I love the best.

At night in the city
You can breathe,
Walk freely
And can hear your own footsteps
Echoing on deserted pavements.

The city relaxes,
No harried workers,
No lost tourists
Only I, and the city
Alone in the night.

You cannot see the city
In daylight
You must wait until
It awakes from its slumber
And welcomes you in the night air
Then you will see the city
As it should be seen.

A depiction of London, as I like to see it.
