I don't do summaries... See what you want to see.

Like a water bearing beautiful mirage,

she appears, shimmering in the distance.

I can see the silhouette teetering on the edge,

just a helpless onlooker of her balancing act of death.

The sun’s final fading rays emerge from a half circle,

barely lighting the scene across the rift between

her and me.

She dangles a foot and I scream.

A muscular spasm of forced silence,

no sound, no reaction, no effect, no progress.

An arm hovers over the edge now, and with

agony, sorrow and hopelessness, my voice fades

into my own being, never crossing the rift between

her and me.

I pace in angst, wriggling and writhing in discomfort.

She creeps closer and closer, gravel and dust

fall forever into bottomless nothing.

I can hear them crumble, but cannot hear her.

The communication blackout matches the surroundings,

the moon from behind peers eerily into the rift between

her and me.

She takes a last glance across the separation.

I can see her face, white and dark violating one another,

painting a portrait of fear, regret, and disappointment.

Her knight forever absent, standing in a shroud of

lunar brightness and failure.  I bow my head and tremble

as her edge gives way, body tumbling into the rift between

her and me.

Even a scream on the way down is inaudible.

The silence that prevented her rescue, my fulfillment

and our joining hovers still heavier and heavier on

my feeble and ragged soul.  I leap into the unknown,

without hesitation, without fear, without hope, without expectation,

into this darkness of silence, following her into the rift between

her and me.
