Somewhere in the recesses of thought and feeling abides an emotion rare

One so distant as to be almost unnoticed except in that fleeting moment

When time and circumstance allow the soul to traverse beyond normal realms

In that time most unexpected it peers above the horizon of cognitive reason

To pummel conventional thought and make waste of preconceived notions

Leaving the soul bare and unprotected

How frightening this anomaly…this inexplicable wrinkle in the fabric of sanity

From where does it come?  Why does it exist?

How do we categorize it into something comprehensible?

We do not.  It is a part of us for which we have no understanding

Not even the dexterity of wisdom and knowledge working in rare harmony

Can begin to permeate the hidden meaning of this thing over which we have no control

An emotion.  Indescribable.  Uncontrollable.  Incomprehensible.

If but for a moment we could understand it perhaps life would finally have meaning

And the great questions would find answers.

Until then we are but seekers, in constant enmity with the universe

Searching for that which we may never find

But for which we will never cease to search.
