The following work is an acrostic, specifically, a word acrostic.
Acrostics are fun and challenging pieces to work with. They are formed, by having the first letter of each line form a message, however, any scheme of letters may be used as well as words.
In all cases, the message should provide further meaning or definition to the piece as a while, rather like an intimate afterthought.
For this piece, you will find the message by reading just the second word of each line…thus the title of the poem.

The Second Word
(word acrostic)
When love comes softly like a summer rain
Tears will fall, each drop a memory
Which in years gone by, have dampened pillows
And etched by their flow, lines behind closed eyes….
Strange words, these seem, yet necessary…
They add not distract, showing each other
The textures of personal history,
Lover to lover intimacies
Of heart melodies
Shared and composed within
The soul, within being…
In deepening shadows I see the night
And with it dreams…let’s to bed love and weave
Of time, fabrics of pasts and tomorrows.

Love the depth of this poem and the coded message within its lines. We all search for this type of intimacy - mind, body, and soul. Hugs,

A poem to be admired, EW, not only for its unusal technique
but also for the beautiful way you use your words of love.
