Long lonely night

When darkness enters our evening hours, the night seems to travel a long and lonely path.

There are no itineraries, we have no set plans and these trips are very personal and usually booked for a party of one.

Somehow our days reflect on the trips we take at night, held hostage by our fears and indecisive opinions. We are involuntary travelers, victims of the night.

Our beginnings are the same, crawling under our covers getting those pillows just right, a quick exhale of frustrations, followed by a small silent plea.

Please allow me to forego those nightmares and unpleasant dreams, let me experience a night of tranquility.

Replace my anxieties with peaceful thoughts and memories of love; allow me to conquer this darkness with a happy heart and peaceful soul.

Let my sleep be filled with fairytale princes and princesses of old, shiny knights of honor and damsels with hair of spun gold.

Just one night, one taste of the divine, to awaken with a smile in my heart from a weary old soul.

As I lay my head down, it’s time to close my weary eyes.

After all that I have said, my destination is really for me to decide.
