My Perfect Rose

Gems upon this fertile soil
bring wealth into our world.
Forget the diamond pure and spoiled
or charm in every pearl.

Facets of a jewel may gleam
with brilliance I suppose
but none possess a beauty fair
and gentle as my rose.

Each petal kissed by mornings dew
share tints of rubies rare.
Sapphires charm with hints of blue
still nothing can compare.

Emeralds please a royal soul
with fortunes undisclosed
but none possess an essence sweet
and perfect as my rose.

A Midas Touch may steel the heart.
turn dreams to golden stone;
Crystal hopes will soon depart
when lusters almost gone.

Wealth of being can not abide
by all which we have chose.
After that which is no more,
I'll always have my rose.

Absolutely wonderful rhyme and flow...beautiful poem, as beautiful as a rose itself. Smooth and natural flow, not a hint of force in this flower :D Love, light, and blessings, Dena

Beautiful from beginning to end, but this particular stanza
just took my breath away:

"Facets of a jewel may gleam
with brilliance I suppose
but none possess a beauty fair
and gentle as my rose."

Such as this is why I love poetry!

Classical beauty that is so perfect one wonders why it is not already classically published. Everything about this sings, Paul. Its cohesion is wonderful. One of the best Odes To A Rose that has ever been conceived, I'll bet! Kate xx

Do you go to Gem shows? or are you a dealer in sapphires and other precious stones? That's not only why I like your poem: I admire your flow of rhymes, the refrain of your rose, the relationship of gemstones and flowers, both found in the earth, and the picture -- so cool! Keep writing, Paul.

What a lucky rose!! This deeply romantic and rhythmically penned
ode is very refreshing in a day when Cynicism seems so close to taking
over. As for flowers, surely the rose is queen. The perfect metaphor!! Bless you for caring so deeply. Sharing this wonderful rose!!! 'Pea' <3
