Usually, a shoe walks gently through the day.
Unassumingly taking the owner on its way.
But sometimes a shoe can speak a tale.
Of its owner's life so very frail.
The owner could have been you or me, or anyone.
Getting ready for work, tying strings on the run.
This person taking for granted that little skill.
Leaves behind the knowlege he or she was real.
The ash that stains this prior foot cover.
Is what is left of a husband, wife or lover.
{i}Daughter son, sister or brother..{/i}
Was this shoe picked out with any thought in it?
Was it the most comfortable in the closet?
Was it to match a smart looking suit?
Was it picked out over the choice of a boot?
There is no knowing the full story of this shoe's tenet.
It serves only to remind of its owner's final minute.

As it lays in the rubble in land of the free!
Innocence lost on September 11th brings.
Memories frozen in time with ordinary things.
