This poem focuses on the power of peer pressure and the difficulty of rearing teens in these modern times. Written on March 13, 2003..my third poem..certified semi-finalist..will be published in the anthology, "The Eternal Portrait Series", in Summer 2003.
The Prodigal Son
I told you that kid acts strangely,
But instead you acted dangerously!
He acts like he has something to hide...
Can't you tell? He doesn't even say hi or good-bye!
I told you that I didn't want him hangin' round,
But you just looked at me and frowned!
"Why doesn't he hang with boys his own age",
I said.."stead of causing us such rage?"
Now he's taken in our first-born son...
Sin prevails.. til victory is won!
He has been a bad influence on others...
What on earth are we gonna tell his brothers?
They are much too young to understand...
Why the one they look up to is taken by a policeman!
Will they follow his ways and go astray?
Only God knows! Who's to say?
Why would anyone wanna take what isn't rightfully theirs?
What is happening to our children and doesn't anybody care?
Now he's a juvenile delinquent and will no doubt be hazed...
He feels so alone in juve as he's counting down his days!
