This is a true story about how my hubby & I met  (Not us in picture)
Written August 12, 2003..My seventeenth poem.

Happy Anniversary Sweetheart

It seems like just yesterday...

I was saying bye to some friends,

Walking with my face turned away,

  That's how it all began.

When I turned my head around...

We were standing face to face.

There we were, just you and I...

  Not another soul in sight.

I was so young and timid.

  I quickly said hi...

As I rushed off to practice.

I can still see you,

  In your tight black tee,

  Acting macho.......

  .......if you only knew!

I was watching you the whole time..

 You had no earthly clue...

All the while you were looking for me..

I already knew it was you!

Then one cold day in December..

So clear I can still remember...

Pam and I were sitting in the hall..

When you walked by and felt the draw.

 You turned right back around..

 Much to my surprise...

Next to me you sat down...

You had that twinkle in your eye.

I was holding a fluffy pink kitten,

 With a satiny yellow ribbon.

Your irresistible charm had me smitten..

 When your expertise was given.

You tied the ribbon exquisitely into a bow,

 But I was so schoolgirlish...

I said "That's not how it's supposed to go."

I was more or less unimpressed!

I looked at Pam and then back at you...

I kept shying away with girlish giggles,

Although I thought you were cute,

And I had those crazy puppy love jiggles.

From that day forward, we were inseparable..

At each other's house or phone stuck to our ears,

You told me all of your childhood fables.

We talked about joy,

We talked about fears...

Sometimes we shared laughter,

Other times we shed tears.

You played for me on your guitar...

I'd melt when you'd play "Dust In The Wind",

For I thought you were the best by far

And surely, now, we were more than just friends.

At the time, you hadn't the slightest realization,

But more than musical strings were being plucked.

This was much more than infatuation...

This time my heartstrings were being struck.

As days went by, the closer we became.

A year passed and the spark turned into flame.

You told me you loved me and I knew I felt the same.

I knew I'd be willing to share the same last name.

We were high school sweethearts...

You carried my books and walked me to my classes.

We were hardly ever apart, and...

I always saw you through rose-colored glasses.

We couldn't wait to be alone...

We'd sneak beneath the stairway...

I savoured the sweet essence of your cologne,

As we cuddled and cooed in our secret hideaway.

Like kids in a candy store...

Tender kisses left us hungry for more..

We never had experienced those feelings before.

Like swimming the surface of an ocean floor,

This new love we wanted to explore...

You were the one I came to adore.

Summer by now, the nights were getting hot...

We were as close as a true lover's knot.

Those precious memories will never be forgot...

Times spent apart, we really missed alot.

On a very hot and sunshiny day in July,

You meditated on the meaning of life.

Subsequently, you pondered my reply..

Then you wholeheartedly asked me to be your wife.

Of course, I gleefully said yes...

I surrendered to your sweet arrest..

To forever share the same address..

And mark August thirteenth as a day of success.

With twenty years, we have been blest...

Together in our cozy little nest.

We make a lot of lovin'..a lot of turtle dovin'.

These years with you have simply been the best...

You've filled my life with much needed zest...

With gestures and words of love you express...

I could just live forever in your sweet caress.

Dreaming every night with my head upon your chest..

Yours next to my bosom,

To your passionate, come-hither lips I succumb...

Awoken, as you stir across each breast.

Hoping our love will never end...

Trusting, that on you I can always depend...

Having faith that you'll remain my best friend...

Praying we'll be together forever and ever..Amen!

Congratulations on your writing accomplishments, and on raising six boys. We had four boys, so I 'know' what this means. Thanks for sharing with us.

Like our little sister once told me. Where do you come up with this stuff? Now I know where my writers block went. I gave it to my other little sister. This poem is long but, you had me until the very end. Four stars sister. I loved it and hope John did too. I didn't know you were writing again. You inspire me to find my words again. I really need to write one for Derrick on recieving the Audie Murphy Leadership Award.
