Night Blooms

by Angela L Burke

In the quiet of the night

The stars like lanterns shining.

The creatures of the night awake

Their music soft and pining.

The moon is hidden neath a cloud

The smell of rain drifts past.

Upon a breeze through sleeping leaves

Their quiet rest, harassed.

The chilly air brings shivers

Dampening my bones

The feel of eyes upon me

As I walk nights path alone.

Surrounded by it's darkness

With just a flickering light

Awakens all my senses

To the shadows in my sights

The darkness black around me

The loneliness abounds

Jumping to each shadow

And the cracking forest sounds

Oh but to walk the path of night

And breathe the chilly air

Surrounded by it's darkness

It's fingers running through my hair

Put aside the fear inside

Inhale the night's perfume

It's fragrance carried on the breezes

That caress the night time blooms

I love the night time, the stars and bright moons. This poem was inspired by a walk in the cemetery at night. I hope you enjoy!
