Another Void

today my world closed up for me
leaving me in a stunned...lonely place
wanting to cry...find a hole to hide in
today i lost a friend...leaving yet another void

i think about the encouraging words shared
the laugh we had at my uncles comical forwards
or reading each others words...feeling what was said
today i lost a friend...leaving yet another void

he had so many friends...all who respected him
who loved to read his humorous and cryptic words
the ones that always had hidden meanings to them
today i lost a friend...leaving yet another void

it will be an empty room now...even with all the people
always expecting to see his name in my e-mail box
i will miss you my friend...good-bye my friend
today i lost a friend...leaving yet another void

A powerfully expressed poem of sadness, Mary.

may the memories of your friend, the many kind words said, fill the void an absence left... and remember that wonderful Merwin poem about absence... Your absence has gone through me / like thread through a needle / Everything I do is stitched with its colour...

If we only look at the seams, we miss the rich tapestry the reams of a life leaves with us until we re-embrace one another in eternity.

Mary,

It hurts so much to lose a friend. You have let us all feel your sorrow through your beautiful wonders. I am so sorry for your loss.
