The sickness of betrayal
Gnaws at my center
Sending self doubt
Burning through me
Like a fever.
Cannot eat.
Cannot sleep.
Sometimes I cannot even breathe.
I have faced loss,
To distance,
To death,
To the growing indifference
Of youthful friends.
This loss of you,
Tears, gnashes, destroys,
Sending part of
Who I am,
Who I thought
I was,
Into the abyss of
I seek alleviation
In friends, in work,
In our children,
In false laughter and bravado,
In the seduction of self-indulgence.
Like the alcoholic seeking
One more drink
I hold on to my love for you,
Hoping for (dreading) the cure.

Is there rehab for broken hearts?

Don't we wish...only time works, and finding someone else to have coffee with. Nicely done, Leysa.

Leysa, Very moving poem. Sometimes we have to tackle our addictions head on.

I know this so well. Wanting the pain to stop, but holding on to it so tightly your fingers bleed. The love we once received is gone, so we mold the grief like clay to fill it's void.
Be strong. (and it's ok not to be)

So often we crave a cure for the broken heart but fear the losing of the pain for whilst we feel that pain we indeed feel SOMETHING, the emptiness that follows can be far more frightening. You captured this extremely well. Mal.

Such a deep, moving poem. "Gonna have to face it your addicted to love." Not sure if there is a cure, but everyone loves love and sometimes it is so bittersweet.
