This poem is about the innocence of a child.

You are but a little tot,
Starry eyed, innocent and true .
With not a care in the world.
Except what games to play or what snacks to eat Or what songs you’re gonna sing,
As the days merrily go by.

You are too young to care,
About the clothes you wear.
If your jeans are name brand,
Or your jacket or sneakers too.
It is not even important to you,
If you are bare and wear nothing at all.

You are not a gossiper,
Not even a tattle tale,
Or a liar or swearer, but filled with innocent truths.
You know nothing about cheating.
Not yet, anyway.
Only cartoon, videos and television interest you.

You are oh so innocent,
Without one little care in the entire world.
And you have no idea what you're in for,
As your days scurry on by.
And without even knowing how,
You're being sucked closer and closer to it all.

Each day as you grow older,
And you begin to wonder,
About what’s when’s why’s or how’s.
Curiosity will soon get the best of you,
And soon you'll begin to explore,
And your days of innocence will be no more.

And you will be thrust into this cold, cold world,
A world not fit for innocent girls and boys.
But somehow you must learn to endure,
The killings, injustices and poverty,
Or how to make the world a better place,
For the next generation of innocents to follow in your footsteps.
