War Zone, Backing Out of Hell
by Dave Harm

"War Zone" is the prequel to "Damaged Merchandise." It takes place 10 years before the poetry came alive. It is the story of my first two years of sobriety and the demo..

Troika !!!

I caught the heavy horse show at local fall fair last year. Standing at the rail of the track I was less than three meters from the action-- I could feel as much as hear their hooves pound !!!

I watch and listen in awe
as two and a half tons of horse
trot by.
Troika!
Three of the
great beasts hitched abreast,
bells in their beribboned manes
jingle counterpoint to the rhythm
of their gait.
Daughters of
Clydesdale mares by a Hackney stud,
bred for work no longer needed,
they now strut their stuff in the show ring.
Marvels of breeding and horsemanship
they excite and inspire
with fire,
and thunder.
and the jingling of bells.

(The
Commercial Horse was bred for light delivery work. Also known as Canadian Cross Bred Horse the breed seems to have originated in southern Ontario. It has the gait, head and fire of the Hackney coupled with the strength, feet, and gentleness of the Clydesdale.)
