in solidarity with the men an women of the Canadian Forces serving in Afghanistan.

His is Name is Serge, or, Jack
Henri, or Ramon, or Roger

He comes from Major Saskatchewan
or Fort St John, or Winnipeg, or

Calgary, or Halifax, or Trios Rieviers

He answerers the drum of
The Lord Srathconna Horse,
The Queen’s Own,
the Van Doos,+
Royal Canadian Regiment,
or the Princess Patricia’s++,
storied regiments all.’
He is descended from men
who fought at Vimy, and Ypres,

Singapore, Dieppe, and Normandy;

who kept the peace from Suez

to Palestine and places too small

to remember, too painful to forget.
The Captain whistles,

the Sergeant barks  and this

Canadian soldier picks up his
gun and his helmet and
marches off
into the Afghani Dusk.
