Tanka (31 syllables, arranged 5~7~5~7~7) is an ancient
form of poetry. It has served as an invocation of deity,
and as part of a lover’s ritual. It gave rise to the modern
haiku (5~7~5).

At some point tanka were writen by two poets
one would write the first three lines (5~7~5)
the second would respond with the last two
(7~7). This is my challenge that you respond
to one or more of the following by adding two
7 syllable lines:

i
we share our passion
in intimate metaphor
living poetry

ii
green buds on grey twigs
purple flowers show above
warming vernal earth

iii

singing brook racing
gravity to the great lake
spring’s liberation

I'll give it my best shot...
We share our passion
In intimate metaphor
Our souls placed upon the page
Hearts revealed within our words

i
we share our passion
in intimate metaphor
living poetry
words that breathe our every thought
through distance too thin to touch

ii
green buds on gray twigs
purple flowers show above
warming vernal earth
life bursting from silent death
and the heart of living sleep

iii
singing brook racing
gravity to the great lake
spring’s liberation
passing through the cold stone wall
to fill passion’s thirsty sea

I enjoy a good challenge.

we share our passion
in intimate metaphor
living poetry
Words written seductively
Producing steamy energy

green buds on grey twigs
purple flowers show above
warming vernal earth
Alluring scent of lilac,
Beauty, in smell and sight

singing brook racing
gravity to the great lake
spring’s liberation
To a glacier feed freedom
Refreshing to the bare skin

gravity to the great lake
spring’s liberation
from it's winter time playmate
come join the celebration

we share our passion
in intimate metaphor
living poetry
some magical display
Brings flickering hopes

purple flowers show above
warming vernal earth
embrace the beauty
souls of one kind

iii

singing brook racing
gravity to the great lake
spring’s liberation
lovers last laughter
that echoes to the mountain

My first try...delete me or read me HA!!

These are so good just as they stand, John.
