I wrote this for Ken when we were miles apart.

Hold My Heart Tightly

There are two people named Debbie and Ken

They’ve known each other for years numbered two times ten

They’ve both been busy with their families for years

All had shared laughter right along with tears

Some things in life we can’t be spared

Life has changes for us no matter how much we’ve cared

Time goes by and hurts and pains begin to heal

They’ve only just discovered that once again they can feel

Debbie and Ken have been friends through all this

Never imagined they’d find each other in a kiss

Neither Debbie nor Ken knew where this kiss would lead

At the time it just seemed to fill a need

(Ken made the first sneaky move

Debbie remembers clearly even though there’s no way to prove)

They found that some things are never old fashioned

That a man and a woman can fall in love through friendship and compassion

They know now their biggest obstacle is miles

With him up north, her in the south they have to remember the tenderness and smiles

Ken calls her daily to tell her she’ll “pay”

Debbie still hopes he’ll come here to stay

Time will tell how much their love can grow

The start of this relationship has been far from slow

Sometimes you can give your heart and it just feels right

In this poem I’ve revealed mine, it’s entrusted to you to hold tight.
