I walk out my back door
To stretch and view
The loveliness
of a clear night
To inhale the cleanse country air
Of the evening
A glow I sense
Illuminating the night.

Emitting from over head
To my amazement
I am graced with a vision
Of awe
As The full moon
Is totally in full bloom
She is the centered hazy image
Of a glorious cross.

The heavens are dark
Stars twinkle bright
Within the blue velvet silence
Of a glorious sky
I stare at the reflections
Of street lamps
In the almost
Invisible shimmering Pond.

I hear the gentle sounds
Of the sprinkler
Irrigating my parched lawn
Making it greener
Hoping
It won't take too long.

At A distanceI can hear the fading sounds
Of the night critters
And Screeching of a hunting fowl.

Within the swamp,
Far away and out of sight
I heard a muffled sound
Of a wounded beast
Beast! I narrate within my thoughts
For it's eerieness
Send chills through my spine
Deep to my bones.

Yet the evening was comfortably warm
The thoughts of it's horror
Drove me back indoors
Turning off, the outdoor's light
Securly locking the entrance
To my dwelling, for the night.

There I silently recited a prayer
Hoping to wake
To another sunrise
As tomorrow is arriving.

There is nothing like the beauty of a warm night, I often sit on my patio late at night, after I get home from work, and enjoy the peace and quiet of a small town...outstand poem William!

I want to share a poem that goes well with this one!!

Love Tinka

“Silent Tears Runs Freely”

I walk through my front door
And switched on the light
And in a panicked way
Fireflies and mayflies buzz around
Like they do around a light by night
I look deep into the night
Beyond the light it is very dark
Pitch black
I can hear hundreds of crickets and cicadas
Rubbing their wings unseen
Producing a clamorous chorus
I smile…knowing they are at ease
There is nothing out there to hurt them
I am just staring out
At a absolute black sky
I pull my coat closer to my body
And embrace myself
Trying to make me feel warmer
I listen to the crickets screeching
And I think about my disturbed life
Within the walls behind me
And I can’t help it
The tears crowd the crickets
And in darkness
Silent tears runs freely

I love the night but after being out there for a bit I start thinking how darkness is an excellent cloak for evil-doers. With that thought, I abandon my communion with the stars and the sky and hurry inside where I lock out all of the treasures of the night. A sense of security waves over me as I turn the deadbolt and secure the shades. What a shame it is. As a child, I would sleep on the porch many a summer night and never worry about my safety. Gone are those days when freedom and security were just a given and not something we ever has to think about. Wonderful write, Bill. Thank you for taking me on that short walk down memory lane.
Take care,
Sherry
