Weaving in and out
Of a serene state
Within a sterile theater
Where I laid sedated
Under brilliant spotlights
Resembling a stage setting
Wondering
If I'll be exiting
Stage left or right.

I found myself
To be
The center of attraction
Prior to a surgical procedure
Halfway
Between limbo and reality
I slowly
Peered at my surroundings
Still a bit nervous
A prayer
Stuck in my throat.

I see, a sea
Of masked strangers present
To my right, I noticed
And heard the familiar voice
Of my surgeon
Who was narrating instructions
Next to him
Was a figure of a being
His likeness aglow
Features bright and unfocused
As my mind seemed stalled
Yet a calm feeling
Shrouded over me
I feared him not.

This is beautiful...your poem reminds me of a painting that I have seen in various hospitals of the patient in the bed with the doctor and nurse by their side, but just over their shoulder is Jesus whispering in the doctors ear...I too have had surgery and felt a comfortable spirit because I knew I wasn't going in alone...you have written with great detail and expression, great write and a good reminder that we are not alone.
Blessings,
